3 TROPHIES & TOP GOLD SYDNEY WINE SHOW 2009
Paringa Estate Shiraz 2006

Kemenys Price : $46.99
RRP : $56.00
Kemenys Rating : 97/100
Value :

Tasting Note :
This wine has a complex floral bouquet of dark cherry fruit, subtle new oak char and secondary barrel ferment winemaking characters. On the palate there is powerful dark cherry/black fruit flavours well integrated with savoury/spicy new French oak. The fine grained tannin structure helps provide excellent weight and structure to the wine that will ensure the wine takes several years to reach its peak and then age gracefully with careful cellaring.

Paxton Jones Block M/Vale Shiraz 2004

Kemenys Price : $32.99
RRP : $41.99
Kemenys Rating : 94/100
Value :

Tasting Note :

"Full of lively, sweet but not jammy, red and black fruits supported by fine, ripe tannins and well-balanced oak on a long palate. Lingering finish.94/100. To 2014."

JAMES HALLIDAY, AUSTRALIAN WINE COMPANION 2009

Penfolds Bin 128 Coonawarra 2007

Kemenys Price : $23.99
RRP : $34.00
Kemenys Rating : 91/100
Value :

Tasting Note :

"Bin 128 shows cooler fruit origins in its elegant structure and underlying peppery/spicy shiraz flavours. But there's a tannic austerity, too, and a pleasing savouriness that seems to come from both the fruit and the French oak. The fruit-versus-tannin tension in this too young (but superb) wine will resolve with a few years' bottle age."

CHRIS SHANAHAN, CANBERRA SUNDAY TIMES, 15/03/2009

Penfolds Bin 28 2002 (Cork Screw Pack)

Kemenys Price : $34.99
RRP : $45.00
Kemenys Rating : 93/100
Value :

Tasting Note :

"It shows the unusual blackberry fruit with hints of fruitcake and jam, despite the very cool summer. It has plump, full bodied, rich palate with plenty of fruit sweetness followed by soft tannins and a drying savoury finish."

Huon Hooke & Ralph Kyte Powell, The Penguin Good Australian Wine Guide 2005/2006

Penfolds Bin 28 Kalimna Shiraz 2004

Kemenys Price : $26.99
RRP : $34.00
Kemenys Rating : 91/100
Value :

Tasting Note :
The palate is full-bodied, refined and taut showing dark, black conserve fruit flavours with Satsuma plum notes to the fore. Further liqueur chocolate and spice flavours are impregnated by overt, chewy and ripe tannins. This is a real Bin 28, showing polish, poise and pedigree. By all means, drink whenever, but please save some for the cellar, and the 2010s!

Penfolds Bin 28 Kalimna Shiraz 2006

Kemenys Price : $23.99
RRP : $34.00
Kemenys Rating : 92/100
Value :

Tasting Note :

"... The aromas contain more spice and pepper than usual, amid the warm-earth savouriness. It has richness fleshiness and very good depth and length on a medium-to full-bodied frame. Far from being a fruit-bomb, it has a lot of secondary flavours and is starting to build appealing complexity. Excellent drinking now and can be cellared for a good 20 years."

HUON HOOKE, GOOD LIVING, 21/04/2009

AS GOOD AS BAROSSA SHIRAZ GETS
Penfolds RWT Shiraz 2002

Kemenys Price : $149.00
RRP : $179.00
Kemenys Rating : 97/100
Value :

Tasting Note :

Rich, powerful Barossa shiraz aromas assault the senses, the French oak maturation noticeable on the nose. The palate is rich and chocolatey, voluptuous and almost decadent. The oak influence will soften as the powerful fruit takes over in a few years. Definitely one for the cellar, drink it only with wine knowledgeable friends. From a great Barossa vintage, this is as good as it gets!

Penfolds RWT Shiraz 2003

Kemenys Price : $139.00
RRP : $180.00
Kemenys Rating : 96/100
Value :

Tasting Note :

"A perfumed, floral and slightly meaty shiraz whose cedary fragrance of dark plums, blueberries, blackcurrant, vanilla and chocolate precede a long, tightly knit and focused shiraz that just lacks the brightness and vitality of the best years. It offers deep, dark berry flavours, which despite a balanced spice of fine-grained tannin, just breaks up a fraction at the finish."

Jeremy Oliver, The Australian Wine Annual 2007

"This is probably the finest, most elegant RWT to date - gently oaked, beautifully balanced and very approachable. Robust berries, spice, mint and herbs plus fine-grained tannins combine with goodlength and winning harmony.  Now to 2024-plus."

[Huon Hooke, Good Living, SMH, 01/05/2007]

"Good red-purple; fragrant aromas of black cherry, plum and blackberry; utterly delicious mouthfeel and seductive fruit; will live, but extreme patience not needed. To 2020."

Penfolds St Henri 2001 375ml

Kemenys Price : $34.99
RRP : $45.00
Kemenys Rating : 92/100
Value :

Tasting Note :

An excellent depth of colour with bright crimson hues. Lifted and complex, aromas of spice, raspberry and blackberry fruits, develop characters of praline, anise and mocha with a swirl of the glass. Notes of quince paste, meat jus, black olive, and background tarrines promotes an intriguing, complex style. A full bodied offering with a generous mid palate and formidable weight for the style of wine. Tight, with rounded, integrated, yet obvious tannins, primary flavours of black fruits, blackberry conserve, dark plum, liquorice and spice are evident.

Penfolds St Henri 2005

Kemenys Price : $69.99
RRP : $90.00
Kemenys Rating : 94/100
Value :

Tasting Note :

Dark garnet with a deep core. Flora, perfumed, fresh. Boiled-fruitcake mix-nutmeg/cinnamon and mixed spices are laced with glaceed (Cointreau-like) citrus fruits. Subtle praline & liquorice trail on the finish. Medium to full-bodied with an acid/tannin conveyance propelling flavour to the back-palate. Balanced yet taut, with continuum of flavour - sarsaparilla, beetroot, lemon, blackcurrant. Nutmeg, red liquorice & pomegranate jump to the fore while juniper, bay leaf & menthol linger on the finish.

Peter Lehmann Barossa Shiraz 2006

Kemenys Price : $13.99
RRP : $21.00
Kemenys Rating : 93/100
Value : dddddd

Tasting Note :

The wine has a deep centre with a dark red rim. The bouquet shows lashings of classical Barossa Shiraz chocolate and dark plum aromas, given a gentle left from the well seasoned French oak notes. It is a robustly structured wine, with mouth-filling generous fruit clothing its firm muscularity. It finishes firm with powdery tannins. It is a fine example of Barossa shiraz from a top vintage year.

Peter Lehmann Stonewell Shiraz 2002

Kemenys Price : $69.99
RRP : $85.00
Kemenys Rating : 94/100
Value : dddd

Tasting Note :

"Excellent colour; much firmer and more concentrated than Eight Songs; classy blackberry fruit, equally classy oak, and tannins which have more authority; the last still to fully soften into the wine. This is, and will be for many years, a classic. Cork. To 2025."

JAMES HALLIDAY, AUSTRALIAN WINE COMPANION 2008

Plan B Frankland River Shiraz 2007

Kemenys Price : $16.99
RRP : $22.00
Kemenys Rating : 91/100
Value : dddddd

Tasting Note :

In case things don't work out you need a Plan B .... This very well-priced red is a good example of Great Southern shiraz. Spicy and slightly floral, it has a lot of power on the palate (helped by 15% alcohol) and a long, emphatic finish. There's a slightly lactic element to the bouquet but, for under $20.00, it has generous depth of flavour and concentration, finishing with an authorative grip. It would come into it's own with protein-rich foods. Drink now to 8 years plus.

"Very interesting nose. Almost bacon-like aromas. Not sure about the oak on this one. Currents and spice. Quite complex and an interesting character. Very savoury and complex on the palate. Nice chewy tannins. With some air, it came together well. I thought it was pretty strong, very tight, savoury and very balanced."

Kemenys Rating :

Tasting Note :
Harvested in the cool of the morning and fermented at cool to moderate temperatures in order to retain fruit spice and varietal impact. Careful selection of appropriate American and French oak barrels has allowed the fruit to remain to the front while providing structure, Gentle tannin and spicy flavour from the wood. Flavours of juicy red berries and a touch of spice, wrapped in gentle tannins.

Rockbare McLaren Vale Shiraz 2007

Kemenys Price : $13.99
RRP : $22.00
Kemenys Rating : 89/100
Value : d

Tasting Note :

"The 2007 vintage was one of heartbreak for my growers. Incredibly small crops due to the prolonged drought of 2006/07 were further reduced by a large rain event in the middle of January, which split and shrivilled the fruit. The end result was yields in the shiraz down by up to 90% on the previous vintage. The upside of these events is that the tiny amount of fruit left on the vine were incredibly intense in their flavours, and the resultant wine is simply outstanding. There is not much of this wine available, so drink it up whilst you can - it's a classic."

Sandalford Estate Shiraz 2005

Kemenys Price : $26.99
RRP : $34.00
Kemenys Rating : 92/100
Value : ----

Tasting Note :

"The old idea that Margaret River isn't a great area for shiraz sure is being challenged. This is another excellent wine. It was matured in French and American oak for 18 months. Soft, generous, mouthfilling and delicious - what more do you want from a good bottle of red? This is full of the flavours of dark berries - blackberries and dark cherries and boysenberries - and while it opens with a fair kick of cedary, coffeed oak, settles down into the wine nicely and in any case, works beautifully in with the wine. I love drinking this."

Tasting Note :

"This is not for everybody: if you have an aversion to American oak, look elsewhere. However, in its bold, full frontal, uncomplicated style, this is a really generous mouthful of red that will please a lot of people. Plum, spice and chocolate aromas, vanilla and coconut as well, which translate onto the richly fleshed palate. Choc-mint and red-fruit flavours pervade the mid-palate and the fully-ripe grapes give an impression of sweetness. Alcohol at 14.5 per cent is not too high; Summerfield have been making an effort to tame it. Riotously decadent stuff. Drink now to 12+ years."
