This wine is a deep ruby colour, with fresh purple tints. It displays classic black fruit and forest floor varietal characters complemented by soft, mocha oak flavours. The long, fruit driven palate and firm, ripe tannins make this an ideal wine for drinking now or for aging for two to three years.

| The wine is medium bodied - rich and smooth with delicious flavours of juicy plums, blackberry, licorice ad subtle a[icy apricot. This is a well integrated and balanced wine with grainy, textured tannins which persist well after the wine has been finished. The wine can be enjoyed now but will benefit from careful cellaring up to and possibly beyond 2015. |

Flavours of spice, plums and vanilla carry over from the bouquet. A generous wine with great acid balance, well integrated oak and silky smooth tannins which form a well structured wine with a soft persistent finish. Match with sirloin steak with garlic mash.

The wine is predominately Grenache with small percentages of Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Malbec. All this adds up to a superb Rhone style which is full-bodied and soft. Fabulous with duck, turkey lamb and gamey meats. The grenache spiciness is given extra back palate astringency with the blending of the other more tannic red varieties. Certainly drinking beautifully now it will reward short term cellaring.

Note : |
An excellent "older"variety from Bordeaux where the grapes dark thick skins produce deeply coloured, spicy and fragrant wines. This wine shows dark vibrant red purple colour with fragrant berry fruits..
The palate is spicy, rich and full with fine tannins on the finish. Maturing in fine French oak for 13 months has given the wine a beautiful softness and great palate length. Perfect with beef or lamb dishes and it will improve in your cellar for the next 6 to 8 years.

"Made from 100% shiraz that spent 24 months in French oak (30% new), the exuberant, flamboyant 2004 The Factor offers up gorgeously pure blueberry and blackberry fruit intermixed with smoke, bacon fat, camphor, and graphite. Silky smooth, and as David Powell says, "the most Barossa-like" of all his wines, it represents Powell's rendition of a Cote Rotie. It can be drunk over the next 15-20 years."

"Virgin Hills holds a special place in the hearts of many wine lovers, ranking alongside such revered boutique labels as Lake's Folly, Mount Mary and Yarra Yering. Its Bordeaux-style labels of cabernet sauvignon, shiraz, merlot and malbec have enjoyed cult status ever since the second vintage wine, the 1974, won a gold award at the prestigious 1981 International Wine and Spirit Competition in Bristol, UK. The new-release 1998 is the first to hit the market since Michael Hope took over and I think it will rank as one of Virgin Hills' best. It is a blend of 85% cabernet sauvignon, 10% malbec, 3% shiraz and 2% merlot and it packed with young, vibrant berry fruit flavour and promises to cellar beautifully over the next 15 years."
