"I was more impressed tonight with the Caldora Yume Montepulciano d'Abruzzo 2004... My partner tells me there isn't a Y in the Italian alphabet, so I don't know where the name originates, one listing I saw suggests it is the phonetic version of the Japanese word for "Dream". It has an enticing magenta colour, nose of dried herbs, red fruits and aniseed/fennel, a beautiful fruity but slightly savoury mid-palate framed by firm, drying tannins and a satisfying moderate length finish. Named after the white clay of the six year old vineyard in Monrale and produced from 100 percent chardonnay grapes. The grapes adapt wonderfully under the intense Sicillian sun with scents of citrus fruits and blossom. The wine is aged in small oak casks for 6 months before release. It has an enveloping scent with hints of candied fruit, orange peel and a touch of basil. A hot sensual wine, tasting of orange peel and cedar wood enveloped by remarkable sapidity.

Merlot is the most wide-spread red wine in Friuli. In the stony soils of the Grave del Friuli area, Merlot is enhanced to give extraordinary performances. It has a ruby red colour with a slight violet edge. The flavour is slightly herbaceous, full bodied and with ageing becomes fairly dry.
